![]() On the cover we see the Illustrated Man sat perched on a rickety wooden platform, with a bleak alien landscape in the background. ![]() The man in the novel has tried to remove the tattoos with no success, and they writhe with a life of their own as they strive to tell their stories through the chapters in the book. The striking image shows the heavily tattooed man from the book, and each of his tattoos tells a story that is featured in the book itself. This artwork used for ‘ The Illustrated Man’ book cover was arguably the stand-out piece from a series of artworks that Ellis did for Bantam books who had commissioned him to create the book covers for their reissues of some of the classic works of Ray Bradbury, in the early 1960s. ![]() Ellis created this iconic painting that was called ‘Red Illustrated Man’. Dean Ellis was comissioned to produce a painting that would be used for the cover of the Bantam Books issue of Ray Bradbury’s ‘The Illustrated Man’. ![]()
